What is Air Tightness Testing?

Air Tightness testing is commonly described as blower door testing. It is a diagnostic tool used to measure the airtightness of a building.

During the test, a fan is mounted in an exterior door frame to depressurize or pressurize the building. As this is happening, the rate of air flow required to do so is measured. This gives you a quantifiable and comparable figure of air leakage in your house as well as helping to identify areas where air is leaking from – such as gaps around windows, doors and ducts. Thermography and fogging equipment are also used to identify problematic areas in the construction and insulation of your home and ensure building code requirements have been met.
